Children are not likely to be infected, but since the Delta variant is so contagious, more children get infected, get sick, and spread the virus. According to the Centers for Disease Control(CDC), to date, there have been over 94,000 children hospitalized with COVID-19. Unfortunately, approximately 400 children have died from COVID-19. Yet, only 39% of children between 16-17 year old and 27% of them between 12-15 year old have been fully vaccinated. Children and COVID-19. Louisiana, Texas, and Florida have the highest levels of cases and hospitalizations in the United States (US). Schools all over the united states opened yesterday. Children 12-17 years old makeup approximately 25 million Americans (2019) with 7.1% fully vaccinated. With 25% of children 12-17 years old fully vaccinated, we have a long way to go. Teens are more vaccinated than younger children. There are 27% of 12-15-year-olds and 39% of children 16-17 years olds who are fully vaccinated. Pregnancy & Delta Variant surge. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the Society for Fetal Medicine recommend that all pregnant individuals be vaccinated against COVID-19. This is new information because prior to now, COVID-19 vaccines were only recommended at 20 weeks or more and before the third trimester. Mothers are at risk for severe COVID-19 disease up to death from the virus. Only 22% of women have received at least one vaccine. Ask your doctor about anything that you might be concerned about.
