How to get rid of nausea. Your health care provider is probably encouraging you to drink 8-10 glasses of water a day and eat a healthy diet to get the nutrients you and your baby need to be healthy. How can you eat and drink enough when you are feeling nauseated?

You really can’t because if you eat and drink when you are nauseated, you will eventually vomit defeating the purpose and making you feel even worst. But, if you don’t you could get dehydrated and have electrolyte (potassium, sodium, etc) imbalances. In this post, I will tell you how to get rid of nausea naturally and if no relief, what you should consider.

It is very important to go to the maternal health emergency room if you are vomiting more than twice a day and not able to hold down fluids or food to avoid life-threatening dehydration and electrolyte imbalances. Some moms need an IV and admission to the hospital overnight for fluid replacement.

What Causes Nausea and Vomiting

Nausea and vomiting usually happen during the first month of pregnancy. However, nausea and vomiting could continue in the second and third months and possibly until nine months. Nausea and vomiting are less likely after your first month and if it continues past this call your doctor for further evaluation.

How to Get Rid of Nause and Vomiting

The most common way to get rid of nausea is to avoid meats or any saturated fats. Meats may have toxins that are mutagenic or teratogenic (birth defects). Your body is relatively immunosuppressant while pregnant to protect the baby due to daddy’s genes. Therefore, your immune system is not on full alert and your body is trying to get rid of any meat that might be harmful.

Try avoiding meats and if no relief, eat small frequent meals and stay full, in addition to avoiding meats. Some reach has found that Most moms experience nausea when they first wake up in the mornings due to an empty stomach. Eat a small snack immediately when you wake up in the morning. Then, eat every two hours or so to stay full. However, a few mothers find that staying full could trigger their nausea. You just have to try some things to see what works for you.

A second common thing that could help with nausea is to drink small sips of sparkling water during the day. Decaffeinated sodas would work as well but they come with the risk of causing high blood sugars or extra weight gain. There are all different flavors of sparkling water including mineral water. Limit mineral water to once a day to prevent holding to fluid also known as swelling or edema. Mineral water is usually high in salt.

These drugs are taken by mouth and some have could be prescribed as a suppository. All of these prescribed medications may provide relief within 30 minutes.
