Having trouble with nausea? Research has shown that vitamin B6 is useful to help reduce nausea.
Vitamin D deficiency puts you at risk for gestational high blood pressure, pre-eclampsia, and eclampsia. Get your vitamin D level checked to be sure your level is at least 30 ng/ml, which is not optimal but better than being deficient. Ask your doctor what your optimal vitamin D level should be. The Endocrine Society recommends at 4000 IU adults and infants 6 months of age and older.
Prenatal vitamins are essential for a healthy pregnancy and to have a healthy and happy baby. Start as soon as possible even if you have not seen your OBGyn (obstetrician) yet, but clear with your pharmacists at the consultation desk. Before you talk with your pharmacist, make a list of any illnesses, allergies, and health problems for your pharmacist to help you best.
Consider these prenatal vitamins if you don’t like taking medicine or you are having trouble swallowing pills.
Consider these prenatal vitamins for the best nutritional value.

Constipation
Constipation could be a problem during pregnancy and even after pregnancy, especially if you are on prenatal vitamins with iron. An apple a day or 1-2 prunes a day would resolve most constipation.
If an apple or prunes don’t work, you should ask your doctor if you could take Colace. Colace is a stool softener and not a laxative; so, you can take it every day and it will prevent you from having constipation.
If you are constipated, ask your doctor if you could have a dose of Milk of Magnesium. Milk of Magnesium is not something you want to take routinely.
Magnesium
Many women between the ages of 11 and 45 are deficient in magnesium. Magnesium deficiency worsens during pregnancy for unknown reasons. Magnesium is difficult to measure accurately using the routine lab work that is available in most medical offices. Nevertheless, if you are experiencing leg, hands, or back cramps, it might be worth checking your magnesium level. If your test comes back normal, you still may have a magnesium deficiency. This is confusing, but low doses of magnesium supplements may help your cramps. Ask your doctor before taking any supplements.
